Fitted wardrobes in Kings Cross: local notes
In the streets around Kings Cross, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 39%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Kings Cross, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Pancras (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west, and Old Church of St Pancras (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Kings Cross is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Close to Lewis Cubitt Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For an older house near Holy Cross Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
Kings Cross is about 1 mile south-east of St Pancras, within the London Borough of Camden. Whether your home in Kings Cross is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Kings Cross is one of 28 places on our list for Camden.
Design visits and fitting in NW1W, NW1 and N1 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street like Euston Road, Duke's Road and Phoenix Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Main roads around Kings Cross include the A501 and A4200, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside Kings Cross, we also cover Somers Town (1 mile west), St Pancras (1 mile south-east), Euston (1 mile south-west), Bloomsbury (1 mile south) and Agar Town (1 mile north-west). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places like Hampstead (3 miles north-west), West Hampstead (3 miles north-west), Greenhill (3 miles north-west), Chalk Farm (2 miles north-west), Dartmouth Park (2 miles north) and Gospel Oak (2 miles north-west).

How we make fitted wardrobes for Kings Cross
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. Most enquiries start with wasted space beside the chimney breast and too little room for clothes, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In a block, a bedroom wall may be shared with the neighbours or the corridor, and those walls can be solid or plasterboard. With purpose-built flats home to most households around Kings Cross, we choose fixings that suit the wall and keep drilling to what’s needed. Tall pieces are fixed back securely.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with its own mix of hanging, shelves and drawers.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Too little room for clothes
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
If your children go to Argyle Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote

From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.
- You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Tips worth knowing
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Let us know about any damp you’ve seen on bedroom walls
- Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
- Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.
Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and slide doors without forcing them. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.
Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, so it is a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. Its layered edge can be painted or left on show.
Doors and drawer fronts
Door styles range from simple flat fronts to panelled ones. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Kings Cross
Do you cover homes near London Kings Cross station?
Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kings Cross?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?
Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings. We measure the slope carefully at the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
The space in front of the wardrobe typically decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We will look at the room with you at the measuring visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
