FAQs: bespoke kitchens in West Hampstead

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Finchley Road & Frognal station?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in West Hampstead?

Yes, West Hampstead is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Bespoke kitchens in West Hampstead

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. If you are living with cabinets built around the appliances you choose and a kitchen finished in your colours, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Around West Hampstead, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house. Cabinets are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope. You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made around them.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Tips worth knowing

These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They help before and after fitting:

  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time isn’t good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer early. Their work and ours need to fit together, and it is easier when everyone works from the same design.

How it’s made

Birch plywood

Kitchen drawers carry heavy pans and plates, and birch plywood suits them.

Doors and drawer fronts

Painted doors can be refreshed later if your taste changes.

Is bespoke worth it?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a simple modern kitchen, off-the-shelf can be enough. For period homes, awkward rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

What happens on fitting day

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Arranging a design visit

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
