Bespoke kitchens for your home in Notting Hill

About our bespoke kitchens in Notting Hill

We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the measuring visit, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us before anything is made in our workshop. If your home has cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and extra cupboard space, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

An older kitchen often has a sash window and a back door, which fix where things can go. With a large share of the homes around Notting Hill built before 1919, the cabinets are planned around the windows and doors you have. Your plumber connects the sink where the design puts it. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Notting Hill?

Yes. Notting Hill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Kensington and Chelsea and London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. It is one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Notting Hill

About 69% of the homes in the area around Notting Hill went up before 1919, and about 11% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Notting Hill is in the Ladbroke Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. About 31% of households in the area around Notting Hill live in flats in converted or shared houses, based on Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

If you live near Holland Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Cosmic House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings.

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Notting Hill

People also want a kitchen that’s built to last and can be repainted, which suits a long-term home. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh over the years.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • A dresser that suits a period house

For families living near St Clement and St James CofE Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Tips worth knowing

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Let us know about parking at the measuring visit
  • Allow space to walk round an island
  • Talk to your other trades in good time

The appliances you have chosen come with their own care instructions, and the worktop you chose will have its own care advice too.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift. Let us know about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
  5. We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Ask for a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
