When is bespoke worth it?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in White City
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners aren’t square and floors slope, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet giving a level line for the worktop you choose. Most enquiries start with a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Whether your home in White City is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, the kitchen starts from the room’s own measurements. Your choice of worktop, sink and appliances is designed in. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper and they suit many newer homes. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Few rooms have truly flat walls and level floors, and standalone units show it with gaps and wobbles. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room as they go in.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside during the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

Kitchens in White City: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around White City were built before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Part of White City is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in White City. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.
Leighton House, about 1.3 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael and St George, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For a family home near Ark Swift Primary Academy, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. Either way, the day is planned during the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
- We visit to measure and go through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
- We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

- Knocking through or rebuilding walls

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in White City
Does a conservation area in or near White City affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you cover homes near Shepherds Bush station?
Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you fit cabinets to walls that are not straight?
Yes, that’s part of the job. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cabinet.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Will you connect the sink and appliances?
No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a Gas Safe registered engineer handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, and we fit the cabinets.
