Bespoke Kitchens in Preston

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Preston starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • A central island in a larger kitchen

Bespoke kitchens in Preston

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and making the most of a galley kitchen.

In a semi or detached house, there may be space for a utility cupboard as well as the kitchen. Much of the housing around Preston is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Tall cupboards for the washing machine, coats and cleaning things can be made to match the kitchen. Plumbing for any appliance is for your plumber.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.

Preston homes and bespoke kitchens

In the neighbourhood around Preston, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 55%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Preston include Church of the Ascension (Grade II), under half a mile east, and Windermere Public House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. All of London, Brent included, is inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Preston is covered by it. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.

Living in a block of flats near South Kenton station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Close to Preston Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your children go to Preston Park Primary School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

Preston is part of the London Borough of Brent, about 5 miles south-east of Kilburn. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Preston included. Across Brent, we cover Preston, along with the rest of the borough.

Here we cover the HA9, HA3 and HA0 postcode area for bespoke kitchens. We cover homes on streets such as Quad Road, Tower Lane and The Avenue, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. Neighbouring places we cover for bespoke kitchens include Wembley (1 mile south), Wembley Park (1 mile south-east), Kingsbury (1 mile north-east), Queensbury (1 mile north) and Mapesbury (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Brent, we also cover Kilburn (5 miles south-east), Neasden (2 miles south-east), Harlesden (3 miles south-east), Queen's Park (5 miles south-east), Church End (3 miles south-east) and Willesden (3 miles south-east).

Landmarks near Preston

Could you do it yourself?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Preston

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Preston?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you cover homes near South Kenton station?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Normally not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Fitting day, step by step

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

How to prepare

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Advice

Looking after your furniture

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Preston

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.
