About our bespoke kitchens in Tottenham Green

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square.

Wall cabinets need firm fixings, and older internal walls can be lath and plaster rather than brick. Since a large share of homes around Tottenham Green are that old, each wall is checked before deciding where heavy cabinets go. Where a wall won’t carry the weight, open shelves or tall floor-standing cupboards can take over.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.

Larder and dresser units

They’re a good way to use an alcove or the end of a wall.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Tottenham Green

About 47% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Tottenham Green went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Tottenham Green, 11 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. Purpose-built flats are home to about 41% of households in the streets around Tottenham Green, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

For a flat near Seven Sisters station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For an older house near Church of Holy Trinity, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Bruce Castle, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Tottenham Green

Do you cover homes near Seven Sisters station?

Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Can I have a kitchen island?

If there’s enough room, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this during the design visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

How we price bespoke kitchens

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Getting in touch

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
