Loft storage for homes in Tottenham Green

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section made at our workshop fits up the stairs. It’s a step that matters for any loft in Tottenham Green. If you are living with no wardrobe that fits under the slope and a loft room that still feels unfinished, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. Around Tottenham Green, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Shallow units keep the way through clear.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. Your storage is made at our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Advice

Materials and finishes

Plinths and scribe strips

The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. We set the storage level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so everything opens and closes as it should.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the storage be finished alongside the woodwork around it. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

What loft storage can’t fix

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Altering the structure of the loft
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can get in touch through our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

FAQs: loft storage in Tottenham Green

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Tottenham Green?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you cover homes near Seven Sisters station?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a written quote.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one can’t. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it’s low. It is scribed to the slope and walls.

Loft storage in Tottenham Green: local notes

About 47% of the homes in the streets around Tottenham Green went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Tottenham Green, 11 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Tottenham Green is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

Near listed buildings like Parish Church of St Ann, about 0.6 miles south-west of the centre of Tottenham Green, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Bruce Castle, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. For an older house near Church of Holy Trinity, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

What affects the cost of loft storage

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • How big the furniture is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

What to send when you contact us

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
