How we make fitted cupboards for Beckton
Few walls in an older house are truly straight, and floors often slope. Every cupboard is scribed, trimmed by hand to meet the wall, then set level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Skirting boards, picture rails and coving are cut around or met neatly, so the cupboard looks as if it has always been there. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a utility room with proper storage and landing shelves for bedding and towels.
Many homes around Beckton were built since 2000, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. For lofts, the storage goes into spaces that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted cupboard we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Where other trades come in
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Connecting appliances to water or waste
- Work on a boiler, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
- Making good walls after other work
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

How we price fitted cupboards
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The number of doors and drawers
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Parking near your home
- How big the furniture is
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
From workshop to your room
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
- First, you let us know about the space and what you need to store.
- We come to your home for a design visit, measure the space and go through the layout. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- We make the carcasses, doors and shelves in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cupboards are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Tell us about parking near your home
Ask for a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Related advice
Is bespoke worth it?
If you are likely to move soon and want to take the furniture with you, standalone cupboards may suit you better. Fitted storage is built in for good and is designed for this home. How long you’ll stay is worth weighing up. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Questions we are often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Woolwich station?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Beckton?
Yes, we work across Newham, Beckton included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What are the cupboards made of?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in the colour agreed with you.
Fitted storage in Beckton
Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 60% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Beckton, with about 38% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Beckton include Gallions Hotel (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 1% of homes around Beckton were built before 1919, well below the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We check what the walls are made of at the measuring visit, as they vary with the age of the home.
The wider area includes historic houses like Eastbury Manor House, about 1.9 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. For a family home near Gallions Primary School, fitted cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. For an older house near St Michael and All Angels Church, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size.
