Loft storage in Beckton: what you get

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In Beckton, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make eaves cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a new loft conversion that needs storage and boxes piled on loft boards.

Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Around Beckton, many homes were built since 2000, so spaces like that are worth a second look. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

How we price loft storage

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The internal fittings
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The number of doors and drawers

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Where other trades come in

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It’s useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish

Flat-pack or bespoke?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Your questions about loft storage in Beckton

I live near Woolwich station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Beckton?

Yes, Beckton is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?

Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. We measure the way up not just the room. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Loft storage for homes in Beckton

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 60% of the housing in the streets around Beckton, with about 38% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Beckton, Historic England’s list includes Gallions Hotel (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Purpose-built flats are home to about 46% of households in the area around Beckton, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael and All Angels Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Eastbury Manor House, about 1.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Living in a block of flats near Woolwich station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

How it is made

Birch plywood

Its layered build gives birch plywood its strength. We use it for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes, with the edge either shown or painted.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. We apply it in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn. Tell us about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
