Fitted cupboards for homes in North Woolwich

We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is good for long shelves. The finish is either spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We make fitted cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat and cupboards that suit a period house.

Floors in newer homes are often finished and easy to mark, so they’re protected while storage is fitted. Many homes around North Woolwich were built since 2000, and stud walls there take fixings chosen for the board. The storage can sit on its own plinth or be scribed over the skirting.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the fitted cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in North Woolwich

Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in North Woolwich?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and North Woolwich is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Do you cover homes near Woolwich Dockyard station?

Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.

Will a fitted cupboard work on a sloping floor?

Yes. Each cupboard is trimmed to the shape of the wall and levelled with a plinth or adjustable feet. That is one of the main reasons to choose fitted cupboards in an older house.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t store things against the boiler
  • Go easy on new doors for a while
  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Have damp sorted before fitting

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can usually be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and small marks can often be cleaned off with a soft cloth. It’s worth keeping a record of the colour.

If there’s damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. A cupboard on a damp wall can trap moisture, especially on a colder external wall. Ventilation inside the cupboard helps too.

Why bespoke in North Woolwich?

You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that’s a real advantage. Ours takes more planning: a design visit, a quote, making and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Large standalone pieces don’t always fit the lift or the hallway, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. It is then assembled and fixed in the room.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Why us?

  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Designed for the room you have
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Scribed to uneven walls

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the cupboards and check how the sections will get in.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build the cupboards in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring the sections in and fit them, scribed to the walls. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Starting with a design visit

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Why people ask for fitted cupboards in North Woolwich

Some people want to hide a boiler, meter or fuse board. They are not much to look at, yet they must stay easy to reach, and that shapes the design. We plan the doors, panels and ventilation with that in mind.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Storage in a corner nothing else fits
  • A linen cupboard on the landing
  • Cupboards for a utility or boot room
  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags

If you live near Beckton District Park, fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Fitted cupboards in North Woolwich: local notes

In the streets around North Woolwich, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of North Woolwich include Church of St Mary Magdalene (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south, and Granada Cinema (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 8% of homes around North Woolwich were built before 1919, well below the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We check what the walls are made of at the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.

For an older house near St John's Church, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size. If you live in a flat close to Woolwich Dockyard station, fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
