The problems fitted cupboards solve

A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. Washing machines, dryers, coats, boots and cleaning things all need a place, and fitted cupboards can bring order to them.

Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:

  • Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
  • Storage for towels and bedding
  • Tall cupboards where space is short
  • A boiler cupboard that keeps access clear

For a family home near St Paul's CofE Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?

About our fitted cupboards in Brentford

A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It can rise to the ceiling or stop at a height that suits the room, and it follows the walls rather than leaving gaps around them. Hallways, landings, utility rooms, boot rooms and alcoves all make good homes for one, with the inside planned around what you want to store. If you are living with built-in storage that matches the woodwork and a neat cupboard around the boiler, fitted cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Hallways in newer flats and houses are often short, with doors opening off every side, which leaves little wall for storage. Around Brentford, many homes were built since 2000, so that’s worth planning for. A shallow cupboard can take coats, shoes and the vacuum cleaner without blocking a door.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

  • Moving gas or electricity meters
  • Any plumbing in a utility room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Brentford

Homes built since 2000 make up about 38% of the housing in the area around Brentford, with about 23% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Brentford include Church of St Lawrence (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-west, and Aroid House Number 1 (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Hounslow is no exception. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

Kew Palace, about 0.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size. For an older house near Congregational Church, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep.

Brentford is part of the London Borough of Hounslow, about 3 miles south-west of Hounslow. Whether your home in Brentford is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across Hounslow, large and small.

We make fitted cupboards across the TW8, W3, W4 and W5 postcode area for fitted cupboards. Our area takes in homes on streets like High Street, Market Place and New Road, for fitted cupboards and any of our other fitted furniture. The A4 and A315 run close to Brentford, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you contact us. We also cover Brentford End (1 mile south-west), Northfields (1 mile north-west), Gillette Corner (1 mile west), Isleworth (2 miles south-west) and Spring Grove (2 miles west). Elsewhere in Hounslow, we also cover Hounslow (3 miles south-west), Feltham (6 miles south-west), Chiswick (2 miles east), Woodlands (2 miles south-west), Lampton (3 miles west) and Hounslow West (4 miles west). Being one of the larger places in Hounslow, Brentford is covered for fitted cupboards and everything else we make.

How fitting day works

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure at several points, as walls and floors in older homes are rarely flat or level.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a little extra left on edges that meet the walls.
  5. We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?

You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that’s a real advantage. Ours takes more planning: a design visit, a quote, making and fitting, but it is built around your space. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Questions we’re often asked

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted cupboards fitted in Brentford?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Brentford?

Yes. Brentford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

How long will the cupboards take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We will talk it through at the design visit.

Is it possible to build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes, provided the cupboard keeps to the boiler maker’s instructions. We plan the space and ventilation around it and make sure an engineer can reach it.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
