Fitted cupboards in Hounslow West: what you get

A boiler cupboard needs more thought than most. Every boiler comes with instructions on the space and ventilation around it, and the cupboard is built to respect them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, and any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe registered engineer. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a cupboard for a recess or odd corner and a utility room with proper storage.

Around Hounslow West, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Fitted cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the fitted cupboard we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Hounslow West

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hounslow station?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hounslow West?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What are your cupboards made from?

Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

The problems fitted cupboards solve

Off-the-shelf cupboards rarely suit older houses. Sloping floors, walls that lean and odd alcove widths leave gaps that collect dust and look untidy. A built-in cupboard follows the room instead.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Storage in a corner nothing else fits
  • A utility room with proper storage
  • Storage for towels and bedding
  • Boxing in a boiler with room for servicing

Choosing a carpenter

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Storage in Hounslow West homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Hounslow West were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%) and since 2000 (about 19%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Hounslow West is partly covered by the Hounslow Cavalry Barracks Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Around a third of the homes in the streets around Hounslow West (about 33%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses of that era often have a hallway wide enough for a coat and shoe cupboard, and a box room that can take more storage.

For a flat near Hounslow station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. The wider area includes historic houses such as Osterley House, about 2.1 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep.

What it’s made from

Doors and drawer fronts

For meter cupboards, the doors or panels are designed for easy access for engineers and meter readers.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home once everything is in place. It is easy to touch up later.

Fitting day, step by step

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You tell us where the cupboards should go.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a little extra left on edges that meet the walls.
  5. We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
