Fitted cupboards in Spring Grove: what you get
Boxing in a boiler is a job that needs care. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, and any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe registered engineer. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about hiding meters and a fuse board neatly and a neat cupboard around the boiler.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Spring Grove, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
Some people like the character of a hand-painted finish in an older house. The colour is agreed with you.
Birch plywood
Long shelves in a cupboard need to stay straight under load, and birch plywood is a good fit. Span, depth and load all matter.
Honest limits
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Wiring for lights or sockets
- Connecting appliances to water or waste
- Relocating meters or the fuse board

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Looking after your furniture
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
- Measure the route into the room along with the room itself
- Let us know how parking works on your street
If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can usually be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that cleans easily with a soft cloth. It’s worth keeping a record of the colour.
Before the design visit, think about what will go in each cupboard. A coat cupboard and a linen cupboard need quite different insides, so it’s useful to know this early.
How fitting works for fitted cupboards
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- First, you let us know about the room and what it needs. A rough sketch helps if you have one.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
- A written quote is sent to you.
- The cupboards are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cupboards are fitted in your home.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Getting a quote
Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Spring Grove
Does a conservation area in or near Spring Grove affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Spring Grove?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Spring Grove is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
What do fitted cupboards cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each cupboard is different, so we quote once we’ve seen the space. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Will a fitted cupboard work on a sloping floor?
Yes. We scribe each cupboard to follow the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth. That is one of the main reasons to choose fitted cupboards in an older house.
