Fitted Wardrobes in South Ealing

Thinking about fitted wardrobes in South Ealing? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing.

  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way

Need fitted wardrobes in South Ealing?

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Structural changes to the room

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers

How we make fitted wardrobes for South Ealing

What goes inside is where a fitted wardrobe earns its place. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own. It’s worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and empty alcoves in the bedroom.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around South Ealing, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Small back bedrooms and box rooms are common too, and they suit fitted wardrobes and other fitted storage well.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the fitted wardrobe designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the measuring visit.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
  4. Once you are happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Advice

Fitted wardrobes for homes in South Ealing

About 66% of the homes in the area around South Ealing went up before 1919, and about 15% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of South Ealing, 7 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Ealing included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in South Ealing is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.

For a family home near Grange Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Lammas Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Flats, leases and landlords

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Caring for painted furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
  • Tell us about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and do not scrub the surfaces.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

What it’s made from

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, which gives large doors a smooth, even surface. It works on plain and panelled doors alike.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside, depending on the look you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in South Ealing

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Brentford station?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit fitted wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in South Ealing?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The time on site depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How do I get started?

Simply fill in our short enquiry form. It helps to send rough sizes and a few pictures, and we will arrange a design visit.
