The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
Close to Finsbury Circus? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
Fitted wardrobes in Aldgate: what you get
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. People normally come to us about condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and too little room for clothes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Many newer homes have tall windows or full-height glazing in the bedroom, so the remaining walls have to work harder. That’s worth planning for around Aldgate, where many homes date from 2000 onwards, and fitted furniture can use every part of the solid walls. Corner sections are planned so nothing is wasted.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Aldgate
Homes built since 2000 make up about 48% of the housing in the area around Aldgate, with about 18% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 375 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Aldgate. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Purpose-built flats are home to about 79% of households in the area around Aldgate, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Living in a block of flats near London Fenchurch Street station? Then fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For an older house near St James Duke's Place, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Aldgate
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Aldgate?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit. The whole City of London is also inside the Congestion Charge zone, and the ULEZ covers every London borough.
I live near London Fenchurch Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across the City of London and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We look at it with you when we measure.
Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly. You choose the colour before we start.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it is useful to let us know at the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Starting with a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and we can include adjustable shelves where you want flexibility. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.
