- No space in front for doors to swing
- Space under the eaves going to waste

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
Sometimes it’s a change in how a room is used. Built-in storage makes the room work for its new role while leaving space to move. Inside, the layout can change as needs change.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- Not enough hanging space
- An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
Close to Finsbury Circus? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How they handle walls that are not straight
Fitted wardrobes in Whitechapel: what you get
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about wardrobes that are full to bursting and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use.
A large number of homes around Whitechapel date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Why bespoke in Whitechapel?
Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

How fitting day works
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- We visit to measure the room and talk through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
How to prepare
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Whitechapel station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Whitechapel?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
How do I get a quote?
Just drop us a line using the contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We talk through both at the design visit.
Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?
We plan it with you during the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Honest limits
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
