Fitted wardrobes in Crook Log

About our fitted wardrobes in Crook Log

Doors can be hinged or sliding. Hinged doors open a whole section at once. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If you are living with empty alcoves in the bedroom and storage boxes stacked under the bed, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Crook Log, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses usually have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. Fitted wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Crook Log

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom normally needs storage that suits the slopes. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty, keeping the room clear.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

For a flat near Bexleyheath station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Looking after your furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:

  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations

New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.

Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Decorating or plastering the room

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Bexleyheath station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Crook Log?

Yes, we work across Bexley, Crook Log included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Crook Log?

The first step is to tell us about the room on our contact form. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. The written quote follows the design visit.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish often suits wardrobes in older houses. You choose the colour, and it is easy to refresh in future.

Plinths and scribe strips

Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It’s what makes the wardrobe look built in.

Bedroom storage in Crook Log

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Crook Log, with about 18% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Crook Log include Red House (Grade I), under half a mile south-east, and Danson Park Mansion (Grade I), under half a mile south-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. All of London, Bexley included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Crook Log fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.

Close to Danson Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your children go to Crook Log Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
