Fitted furniture in DA6

Our area takes in all of the DA6 postcode district, including Upton, Welling and Bexley. Every job starts with a design visit, then a written quote, and the furniture is made in our workshop.

Planning fitted furniture in DA6?

Our fitted wardrobes across DA6

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about mismatched bedroom furniture and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use.

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
  5. We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Quotes in DA6

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Arranging a design visit

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Landmarks near Upton

Our area takes in the homes around Danson Park, Trinity Baptist Church and Upland Primary School, among other places. Also close by are St Catherine's Catholic School (1 mile east), The Golden Lion pub (less than half a mile south) and Bexleyheath Academy (a few minutes’ walk east). Upton has its own railway station: Bexleyheath station. Well-known places in the area include Broadway Shopping Centre (0.5 miles south-east) and Bexley Museum (1.3 miles south-east).

Fitted wardrobes for homes across DA6

From Welling, Bexleyheath and Crook Log to the quieter streets, bedrooms across DA6 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. Hanging, shelves and drawers inside are arranged around what you store.

About 58% of the homes in the DA6 postcode district went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 18% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than half of the homes in DA6 (about 58%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 66% of households in the DA6 postcode district live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Upton: If your children go to Upland Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. For a flat near Bexleyheath station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

What we do not do

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Redecorating around the wardrobes
  • Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

What affects the price in DA6

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

Before the design visit

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • How you want to use the space
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface on large doors. It suits a crisp, modern look as well as a classic panelled door.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish suits wardrobes in a period room. You choose the colour, and it’s easy to refresh in future.

Is bespoke worth it?

Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Will you travel outside London?

No. We work in London and nowhere else, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

What if my bedroom floor is not level?

It is common, and it’s allowed for. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

How long will the fitting take?

It depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
