What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- The overall size of the piece
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Getting in touch
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Where you live, with the postcode
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Bespoke kitchens in Crook Log
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering tricky gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is made at our workshop. If you are living with a layout for a small or awkward room and a dresser that suits a period house, that’s what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Crook Log, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Questions from Crook Log
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Crook Log?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Bexleyheath station?
Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Will you connect the sink and appliances?
No, that work is for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician, and we fit the cabinets.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
How much time does fitting need?
It depends on the kitchen. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Do you need bespoke kitchens in Crook Log?
A painted kitchen can be refreshed later, which suits a long-term home. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up over the years.
Here’s what bespoke kitchens can help with:
- A kitchen island with room around it
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
- Room for everything in the kitchen
If you live in a period home close to Trinity Baptist Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
How to get a quote
To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Advice
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Crook Log
In the streets around Crook Log, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 49%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Crook Log, Historic England’s list includes Red House (Grade I), under half a mile south-east, and Danson Park Mansion (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Crook Log (about 49%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.
If you live near Danson Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your children go to Crook Log Primary School or a school nearby, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
