East Barnet Fitted Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in East Barnet, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

About our fitted wardrobes in East Barnet

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and several odd pieces where one run of storage would do, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. A big part of the housing around East Barnet is interwar, semi-detached or detached. We work in lofts that are already converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What it’s made from

Plinths and scribe strips

In period rooms, we normally scribe the sides and the top. It is what gives a fitted wardrobe its built-in look.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF has no grain, so painted doors look smooth and even. We use the moisture-resistant grade for fitted wardrobes.

What we don’t do

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors

East Barnet homes and fitted wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around East Barnet were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 54%) and before 1919 (about 14%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of East Barnet include Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), under half a mile north-east, and Water Tower at Church Farm School (Grade II), less than half a mile north. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 46% of households in the area around East Barnet, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

Close to Oak Hill Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If you live in a flat close to Oakleigh Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For an older house near St Mary the Virgin, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

East Barnet is about 3 miles south-west of Finchley, in the London Borough of Barnet. Design visits and fitting in East Barnet can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Barnet.

What happens on fitting day

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You send us some details about the room and the storage you need.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out, so you can see what’s included.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you cover homes near Oakleigh Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in East Barnet?

Yes, we work across Barnet, East Barnet included, and across the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We talk through both during the design visit.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in East Barnet?

Just drop us a line using the contact form. Rough sizes and a few photos help, and we will arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.

What happens during the design visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
