Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Barnet

Moving home often prompts it. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Not enough hanging space

For a flat near New Barnet station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Barnet

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We plan for the people using it too, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and too little room for clothes.

If your bedroom is in a period house, expect uneven walls and tall ceilings; in a newer flat, expect plasterboard and a lower ceiling. A home in Barnet might be either, or neither. We scribe, level and fix to suit whichever you have. The height of the room decides how tall the pieces can be.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What happens on fitting day

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. We plan the details of the day during the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before we arrive

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Is parking a problem for fitting in Barnet?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Barnet?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. The written quote follows the design visit.

What we don’t do

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors

Pricing fitted wardrobes in Barnet

The price for your room depends on:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The overall size of the piece
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.

What to send when you get in touch

These details help when you contact us:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Bedroom storage in Barnet

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Barnet were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Barnet, Historic England’s list includes Odeon Cinema (Grade II), less than half a mile west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in the rest of London are set locally. If your road in Barnet falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the design visit.

For families living near Grasvenor Avenue Infant School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If you live in a period home close to St John's United Reformed Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Why bespoke in Barnet?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. The finish is chosen to suit the space.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
