Flats, conversions and lettings

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

Fitted wardrobes in Avery Hill

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. We allow for ventilation behind and within wardrobes on external walls. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around Avery Hill, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Avery Hill

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Avery Hill?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Falconwood station?

Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted. We measure the bed and the room at the design visit.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes. We talk it through during the design visit.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a written quote after the design visit.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Avery Hill?

Just tell us about the room on our contact form. Rough sizes and a few photos help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Avery Hill

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Avery Hill were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 52%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Avery Hill include Avery Hill Training College (main Doorway (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Church of Holy Trinity (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home in Avery Hill is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of Holy Trinity, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. The wider area includes historic houses such as Eltham Palace, about 1.2 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What it costs

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

What to send when you contact us

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

What happens on fitting day

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van usually needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Arranging a design visit

To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

What we do not do

It is worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
  • Structural changes to the room
  • Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hinged or sliding doors

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom typically needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste, keeping the room clear.

Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • No space in front for doors to swing

If you live in a flat close to Falconwood station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
