Fitted Wardrobes in Hacton

Fitted wardrobes in Hacton: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built to the shape of your bedroom. Each piece is designed at a visit to your home, made at our workshop and fitted by us.

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

Why bespoke in Hacton?

To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Fitted wardrobes in Hacton: what you get

Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. People usually come to us about damp or musty clothes against an external wall and mismatched bedroom furniture, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Around Hacton, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That’s where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You send us some details about the room and the storage you need.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Before and after fitting day

A little care keeps the finish looking good. These practical tips help:

  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Tell us which walls face outside

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that’s barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, which can mark the finish.

Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight.

Hacton homes and fitted wardrobes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 42% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Hacton, with about 29% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 72% of households in the neighbourhood around Hacton live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Hacton. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Rainham Hall, about 2.1 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Upminster station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Close to Hornchurch Country Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Hacton is within the London Borough of Havering, about 3 miles north-west of Romford. Design visits and fitting in Hacton can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Our Havering coverage includes Hacton and the places around it.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

What affects the price in Hacton

The price for your room depends on:

  • Parking near your home
  • How big the furniture is
  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Before the design visit

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Questions from Hacton

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Hacton?

Yes, Hacton is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hacton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully during the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It’s planned so there is room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.
