How we make fitted wardrobes for E7
We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Typical reasons to get in touch are no space in front for doors to swing and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You send us some details about the room and the storage you need.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
What affects the price in E7
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Why work with us
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
- Made for your room, not a standard size

Bedroom storage across E7
Bedrooms across E7 might have alcoves, sloping ceilings, bulkheads or none of these. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
The biggest shares of homes in the E7 postcode district were built before 1919 (about 58%) and since 2000 (about 16%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 58% of homes in the E7 postcode district were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths. About 35% of households in E7 live in terraced houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, E7 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Forest Gate: For an older house near A Radical Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Near listed buildings like Emmanuel Church, under half a mile south of the centre of Forest Gate, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
What it is made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It is a sensible choice against a colder external wall.
Plinths and scribe strips
In period rooms, we normally scribe the sides and the top. It is what gives a fitted wardrobe its built-in look.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Most people come to us because they’ve simply run out of space. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall, so you get more storage from the same floor space.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
What affects the price in E7
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The number of doors and drawers
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
What to send when you get in touch
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- How you want to use the space
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
Flats, leases and landlords
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising during the design visit.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in E7
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in E7?
Yes. E7 is part of the area we cover, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Is the furniture made to order?
We make it in our workshop. After that, we fit it in your home.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls, so the doors line up properly.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
