Fitted Wardrobes in West Ham

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted wardrobes in West Ham starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom

Fitted wardrobes in West Ham

Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. If your home has not enough hanging space and a bedroom that never feels tidy, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

The positions of the window, the radiator and the door shape a bedroom more than its size. Whatever kind of home you have in West Ham, we start there, then plan fitted furniture on the walls that are left. Nothing is built tight over a radiator, so the heat still reaches the room.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Questions we are often asked

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in West Ham?

Yes, we work across Newham, West Ham included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.

I live near West Ham station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, as long as it is ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease.

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Fitted bedroom furniture in West Ham

In the area around West Ham, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 39%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of West Ham include Church of All Saints (Grade I), under half a mile north-west, and Willow Cottage (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Purpose-built flats are home to about 46% of households in the streets around West Ham, based on Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

The wider area includes historic houses like Sutton House, about 2.9 miles west. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For families living near West Ham Church Primary School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If you live in a flat close to West Ham station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

West Ham is about 1 mile south-east of Plaistow, within the London Borough of Newham. We cover West Ham as part of our work across Newham, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Newham.

Design visits and fitting in E15, E13 and E7 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Our area takes in homes on streets like Plaistow Grove, Willis Road and Moorey Close, along with the roads around them, whether you want fitted wardrobes or another piece made for the room. Other places close to West Ham include Upton (1 mile north-east), Greengate (1 mile south-east), Maryland (1 mile north-west), Stratford (1 mile north-west) and Plaistow (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Newham, we also cover East Ham (2 miles east), Plashet (2 miles east), Wallend (2 miles east), Manor Park (2 miles north-east), Little Ilford (2 miles north-east) and Custom House (2 miles south-east).

What it’s made from

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room as it goes on. Joins and scribed edges are painted in the same coats.

Birch plywood

For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing.

What happens on fitting day

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the measuring visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.

  1. You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. Once you are happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.

Getting ready for fitting day

How we price fitted wardrobes

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What to send when you contact us

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • How you want to use the space
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, get in touch through our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
