The National Heritage List has 47 entries within half a mile of the centre of Mill Meads. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Newer homes are more common around Mill Meads than across Newham: about 56% date from 2000 onwards, against about 29%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

About our fitted wardrobes in Mill Meads
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. The layout is planned so the room does not feel boxed in. Most enquiries start with no space in front for doors to swing and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A large share of the homes around Mill Meads date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely have enough built-in storage for a bedroom. We design fitted wardrobes around the window, the radiator and the door. In a managed block, the lift and delivery rules are worth checking before fitting day.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it suits a softer, traditional look.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing means trimming edges on site to follow the walls and ceiling. It is how a straight carcass meets a wall that isn’t straight.
What affects the price in Mill Meads
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The internal fittings
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What to send when you get in touch
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Your postcode and the borough
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

What happens on fitting day
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- A written quote follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- Once you are happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
Preparing the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
