Questions from Mill Meads
Do you make TV and media units for homes in Mill Meads?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Mill Meads is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Mill Meads?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
The space can be sized for a larger TV. Tell us the size you might move to at the design visit.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
TV and media units in Mill Meads
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit, with the cables kept out of sight. People normally come to us about speakers muffled behind doors and bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Many homes around Mill Meads were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are flats in newer developments. In a compact new-build room, a shallower run of TV and media units can add storage without crowding the space. Boxed-in pipes and service risers are common, and they can be built around rather than hidden badly.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
What it costs
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How big the furniture is
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Before the design visit
These details help when you get in touch:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- How you want to use the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
