Fitted wardrobes for your home in Bow Common
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Bow Common
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. If you are living with mismatched bedroom furniture and empty alcoves in the bedroom, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Many homes around Bow Common have been built since 2000, and newer bedrooms are often compact, with plasterboard walls. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor, rather than relying on the board alone. Where a small built-in cupboard came with the home, it can be reworked as part of the design.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Under a sloping ceiling, standard wardrobes leave most of the space unused. A bespoke wardrobe can be shaped to follow the slope. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, while fitted furniture can give the space structure.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

Getting a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Related advice
Questions we’re often asked
Is Bow Common in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, Bow Common is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bow Common?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first before we come to fit them.

If you live in a flat close to Limehouse station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If you live near Bartlett Park, fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 2.4 miles north-west.
