- Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway
- Tall cupboards where space is short
- A boiler cupboard that keeps access clear
- Tidying away the gas and electricity meters

About our fitted cupboards in Mill Meads
In many London hallways, space is tight, so a cupboard has to earn its place. A shallow cupboard can hold coats, shoes and bags without blocking the way, with hooks, a rail or shelves inside. Some people like a low bench with storage beneath for putting shoes on by the door. If your home has built-in storage that matches the woodwork and a neat cupboard around the boiler, fitted cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Around Mill Meads, many homes were built since 2000, and fitted storage can make spaces like that far more useful. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.

What we do not do
Not everything around fitted cupboards is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Plastering, decorating or repairs to the walls
- Electrical work inside the cupboard
- Changes to meters, which are for your supplier or an electrician
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Ventilated doors
- Adjustable shelves
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
How it’s made
Doors and drawer fronts
We make doors in a style that suits the room and finish them to match. Drawers below the doors suit shoes and small items.
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted doors and panels, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it’s stable and smooth.
What happens on fitting day
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so let us know what applies at the measuring visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch and tell us whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
- We visit to measure and plan the cupboard so meters, fuse boards and any boiler stay easy to reach.
- You receive a written quote for the cupboards.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with vents and access panels where they’re needed.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Mill Meads
I live in a flat in Mill Meads. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
I live near West Ham station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.

If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
For a flat near West Ham station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Near listed buildings like Tide Mill (known As the House Mill), less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Mill Meads, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted cupboards can be designed around.
