Fitted wardrobes in Monken Hadley

How it’s made

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. It is easy to touch up later.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, so it is a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Monken Hadley

In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. If you’re living with space under the eaves going to waste and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Monken Hadley, bedrooms normally have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

How we price fitted wardrobes

The price for your room depends on:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Spray painting or hand painting

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you contact us

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.

From workshop to your room

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

How to prepare

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Advice

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Monken Hadley

Do you cover homes near Hadley Wood station?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Monken Hadley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully at the measuring visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Before and after fitting day

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • List the things that will not hang, such as jumpers and shoes
  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall in advance
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that’s barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, as they can dull the paint.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
