Fitted wardrobes for homes in Noel Park

Homes built before 1919 make up about 59% of the housing in the streets around Noel Park, with about 14% built between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Noel Park include Top Rank Club (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Noel Park is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

If you live in a flat close to Alexandra Palace station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Bruce Castle, about 1.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For a family home near Noel Park Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Noel Park is about 1 mile east of Tottenham, within the London Borough of Haringey. We design and make fitted wardrobes for homes in Noel Park and across Haringey. Across Haringey, we cover Noel Park, along with the rest of the borough.

In N22, N8 and N17, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Streets in the area include New Road, High Road and Bury Road, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted wardrobes. Main roads around Noel Park include the A1080, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Nearby, we also make fitted wardrobes in Wood Green (1 mile north-west), Turnpike Lane (1 mile south), Hornsey (1 mile south-west), Stroud Green (1 mile south) and Crouch End (1 mile south-west). Being one of the larger places in Haringey, Noel Park is covered for all of our fitted furniture.

Fitted wardrobes in Noel Park: what you get

The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. Most enquiries start with clothes with nowhere proper to go and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Noel Park built before 1919, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Noel Park

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

My home in Noel Park is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do photos help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.

What happens at the design visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • How you want to use the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Tips worth knowing

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Empty the area where we’ll be working
  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room

Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Hinges can usually be adjusted to line the doors up again.

Don’t dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. A little ventilation in the room helps.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. Once you’re happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
