Fitted wardrobes in Royal Docks, Newham

We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Royal Docks, designed around the room you have. Your fitted wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Royal Docks

Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall. There’s no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. For a bedroom in Royal Docks, the first step is a design visit to measure up and go through the design. If your home has standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and storage boxes stacked under the bed, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Many homes around Royal Docks were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the design visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Questions from Royal Docks

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Royal Docks?

Yes. Royal Docks is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Royal Docks?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

What happens during the design visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, using moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

Caring for painted furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and slide doors without forcing them. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.

Bedrooms in Royal Docks: local notes

About 49% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Royal Docks went up since 2000, and about 44% between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Royal Docks, Historic England’s list includes The Connaught Tavern (Grade II), under half a mile north-west, and Central Buffet at Custom House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Newer homes are more common around Royal Docks than across Newham: about 49% date from 2000 onwards, against about 29%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.

For an older house near Church of the Ascension, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a flat near Custom House station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 2.7 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Royal Docks is within the London Borough of Newham, about 1 mile north-west of Plaistow. We can visit homes in Royal Docks on weekdays, or on a Saturday by prior arrangement. We cover places right across Newham.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

How fitting day works

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
