TV and media units for your home in Royal Docks

FAQs: TV and media units in Royal Docks

Can you make TV and media units for a home in Royal Docks?

Yes. Royal Docks is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.

My home in Royal Docks is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. TV and media units are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How do I get started?

It’s easiest to send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Is there room for a soundbar?

We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

About our TV and media units in Royal Docks

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are leads that show from every angle and set-top boxes stacked on a stand.

Newer homes often come with a TV point and sockets on one wall but nothing built around them. A good number of homes around Royal Docks went up since 2000, so we design TV and media units around the existing points rather than moving them. If you want an extra socket, that’s for your electrician, and we leave space and cable routes for it.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the design visit.

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

The unit arrives already finished. Treat it gently while the paint cures fully.

Shelves

Long shelves need the right thickness or a support.

Is bespoke worth it?

Screen sizes change, and a stand that suits today’s set may look small with the next. We can leave room for a larger screen. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Why choose us

  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • We work across all London boroughs

How fitting works for TV and media units

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it is useful to let us know at the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold, from set-top boxes to speakers.
  2. We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.

Before fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Arranging a design visit

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

Built-in living-room furniture in Royal Docks

Homes built since 2000 make up about 49% of the housing in the area around Royal Docks, with about 44% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Royal Docks, Historic England’s list includes The Connaught Tavern (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west, and Central Buffet at Custom House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. Where a home in Royal Docks is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If you live near Beckton District Park, shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green. The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 2.7 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Living in a block of flats near Custom House station? Then it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Royal Docks is about 1 mile north-west of Plaistow, within the London Borough of Newham. Wherever you are in Royal Docks, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Royal Docks is one of the places in Newham where we make TV and media units, and the borough has 26 places on our list.

Design visits and fitting in E16 and E6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Our area takes in homes on streets like Drew Road, Leyes Road and Camel Road, along with the roads around them, whether you want TV and media units or another piece made for the room. Main roads around Royal Docks include the A1020. If you are just outside Royal Docks, we also cover Custom House (1 mile west), Silvertown (1 mile south-west), North Woolwich (1 mile south-east), West Silvertown (1 mile west) and Canning Town (1 mile north-west). We also make TV and media units in nearby places like Stratford (3 miles north-west), Forest Gate (3 miles north), East Ham (2 miles north), Upton Park (2 miles north), Greengate (2 miles north-west) and Maryland (3 miles north-west).

Caring for painted furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
  • Think about whether you will upgrade the screen
  • Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
  • Check each box’s guidance on ventilation and clearances

Once your equipment is in, check that it is not running hot. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.

Leave any new socket or wiring work to your electrician, and do not daisy-chain adaptors.
