Bespoke kitchens for homes in Royal Docks

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. People usually come to us about room for everything in the kitchen and a painted dresser for the kitchen; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A newer kitchen may have a wide glazed door or a big window on one wall, so storage has to be planned around the glass. Since many homes around Royal Docks date from 2000 onwards, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

When you need someone else

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Building work, such as removing walls
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber
  • Any work on the gas supply

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Islands where space allows
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Hand-painted finish

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Kitchens in Royal Docks: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Royal Docks were built since 2000 (about 49%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 44%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Royal Docks, Historic England’s list includes The Connaught Tavern (Grade II), under half a mile north-west, and Central Buffet at Custom House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Royal Docks (about 49%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Kitchens in homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with stud walls, so the cabinet fixings are chosen for the board.

If you live near Beckton District Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 2.7 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Royal Docks

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Royal Docks?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Custom House station?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you’ve picked. It helps to choose them before the design is final, and the quote confirms what’s included.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
