Fitted wardrobes for your home in Southfields
Fitted wardrobes in Southfields: what you get
A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall where that suits the room. There’s no dusty gap on top and no tricky space at the ends. For a bedroom in Southfields, we start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are storage boxes stacked under the bed and a bedroom that never feels tidy.
Older bedrooms usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Southfields are that old. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around, so the furniture suits the house.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Before we arrive
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
Ask for a quote
To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Bedroom storage in Southfields
About 57% of the homes in the streets around Southfields went up before 1919, and about 14% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 6 entries within half a mile of the centre of Southfields. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. That typically means a van in Southfields needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
The wider area includes historic houses like Fulham Palace, about 1.9 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For a flat near Earlsfield station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Southfields is about 2 miles north-east of Clapham Junction, part of the London Borough of Wandsworth. Anywhere in Southfields, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our Wandsworth coverage includes Southfields, along with the rest of the borough.
Design visits and fitting in SW18, SW19 and SW17 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Burr Road, Acuba Road and Mount Road, whether you want fitted wardrobes or another piece made for the room. We also cover Earlsfield (1 mile south-east), Wandsworth (1 mile north), Summerstown (1 mile south), Battersea (2 miles north-east) and Clapham Junction (2 miles north-east). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Putney (2 miles north-west), Tooting (2 miles south-east), Balham (2 miles east), Furzedown (2 miles south-east), Streatham Park (3 miles south-east) and Roehampton (2 miles west).
Near you in Southfields
The streets we cover here include those near Old Sergeant pub, Southfields Academy and Wandsworth School. Southfields has its own railway station: Earlsfield station. Other landmarks nearby include Southside Wandsworth (0.6 miles north) and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum (1.2 miles south-west). Not far away are Henman Hill.
How it’s made
Hanging rails
Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.
Spray-painted finish
Because the doors are sprayed before fitting, they arrive already finished, in the colour agreed with you. Treat them gently while the paint cures fully.
Questions we are often asked
Is Southfields in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, we work across Wandsworth, Southfields included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Southfields?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not typically. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You will get a written quote once we have measured up.
What happens during the design visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Structural changes to the room
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you. How it works.

- Hand-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Spray-painted finish
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
A move is a common trigger. Wardrobes from an old home rarely suit a new room. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.
Fitted wardrobes can help with:
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
Near listed buildings like Earlsfield House, less than half a mile north-east of the centre of Southfields, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
