About our fitted wardrobes in Battersea
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If you are living with space under the eaves going to waste and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast typically sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. A large share of the homes around Battersea date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Battersea
Do you cover homes near Clapham Junction station?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Battersea?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we plan airflow behind and within it, which helps avoid condensation.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We plan it with you when we visit.
From workshop to your room
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the measuring visit.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.
Preparing the room
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Starting with a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
What it’s made from
Hanging rails
Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: one high rail for long coats and dresses, two rails for shirts and jackets.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it’s a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.
Do you need fitted wardrobes in Battersea?
After a loft conversion, the new bedroom typically needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Not enough hanging space
For an older house near Clapham Welsh Presbyterian Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Before you choose who makes it
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Bought wardrobes come in the maker’s finishes. Fitted wardrobes are painted in a colour agreed with you. Bespoke work isn’t as quick as buying from a shop, since there’s a design visit, a quote and workshop time first. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It is useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Battersea
Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Battersea, with about 20% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Battersea is in the Clapham Junction Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Battersea is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 1.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Battersea is part of the London Borough of Wandsworth, about 1 mile north-west of Clapham Junction. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Battersea included. Battersea is one of the places in Wandsworth where we make fitted wardrobes.
In SW11, SW18 and SW4, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like York Road, Este Road and Home Road, for fitted wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Main roads around Battersea include the A3207. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the measuring visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. Being one of the larger places in Wandsworth, Battersea is covered for all of our fitted furniture.
