Fitted cupboards in West Ham: what you get
We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. We finish them by spray painting in the workshop or by hand painting, in the colour you choose. People usually come to us about hiding meters and a fuse board neatly and a linen cupboard on the landing, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Wherever your home in West Ham sits in London’s mix of housing, there’s often a corner or recess not doing much. That space can take fitted storage, laid out for what you need to keep. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Questions from West Ham
Do you cover homes near West Ham station?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in West Ham?
Yes, West Ham is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How long will the cupboards take to fit?
It depends on the job. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes, and we keep them easy to reach. Engineers and meter readers will need access, so we design doors or removable panels for that.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Will the cupboards fit my uneven walls?
Yes. Each cupboard is trimmed to the shape of the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth. That is one of the main reasons to choose fitted cupboards in an older house.
What else we make in West Ham
Flat-pack or bespoke?
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Fitted storage in West Ham
Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around West Ham, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of West Ham. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Terraced houses are home to about 30% of households in the area around West Ham, based on Census 2021. Terraced houses often have narrow halls and recesses where a shallow fitted cupboard helps.
If your children go to West Ham Church Primary School or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. For an older house near Church of All Saints, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves. Near listed buildings like Church of All Saints, under half a mile north-west of the centre of West Ham, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

How fitting day works
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- We visit to measure up and go through the design.
- A written quote follows.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a little extra left on edges that meet the walls.
- On fitting day each cupboard is set level on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the wall.
- Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.

Practical tips
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Leave room in front of the meters
- Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Think about how the cupboards will get in
Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Where we have fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them as needed, so the space keeps working.
If there is damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. Damp behind a cupboard can lead to mould, and external walls can be colder than internal ones. We can allow for ventilation where it’s needed.
