Loft storage for your home in West Ham
Making use of awkward spaces in West Ham
Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the streets around West Ham, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of West Ham, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Newham is no exception. If your road in West Ham falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the measuring visit.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of All Saints, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For an older house near Church of All Saints, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.
West Ham is part of the London Borough of Newham, about 1 mile south-east of Plaistow. Wherever you are in West Ham, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our Newham coverage includes West Ham and the places around it.
Every home in E15, E13 and E7 is covered for loft storage, from the main roads to the quieter streets. We cover homes on streets such as Plaistow Grove, Willis Road and Moorey Close, whether you want loft storage or another piece made for the room. If you are just outside West Ham, we also cover Upton (1 mile north-east), Greengate (1 mile south-east), Maryland (1 mile north-west), Stratford (1 mile north-west) and Plaistow (1 mile south-east). Other parts of Newham we cover include East Ham (2 miles east), Plashet (2 miles east), Wallend (2 miles east), Manor Park (2 miles north-east), Little Ilford (2 miles north-east) and Custom House (2 miles south-east).

About our loft storage in West Ham
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. For a home in West Ham, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Typical reasons to get in touch are a new loft conversion that needs storage and low eaves that nobody can use, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Whether your home in West Ham is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, there’s often a corner or recess not doing much. Fitted storage can make it useful, with drawers, shelves, hanging or a seat depending on the space. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. It is easy to touch up later. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
What happens on fitting day
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. We plan the details of the day at the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

Getting a quote
Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Do you need loft storage in West Ham?
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Storage made for the slopes completes it.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- A loft room with too many jobs
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- Unused space in a dormer
Sutton House, about 2.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.
Choosing a carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
What loft storage cannot fix
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
- Any work on the structure of the house
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Common questions about loft storage
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in West Ham?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Is West Ham in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, we work across Newham, West Ham included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
Which materials go into your loft storage?
Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made in our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
