Walk-in Wardrobes in West Ham
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in West Ham, each designed at a visit to your home.
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- A built-in dressing table
- Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
Ask about walk-in wardrobes in West Ham
Could you do it yourself?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in West Ham
Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We’ll discuss the options at the measuring visit. If your home has a side each for a couple and a use for a small spare room, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Homes in an area like West Ham can come from many different periods, and the walls in a bedroom might be brick, blockwork, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Each wall is checked during the design visit before fixings are chosen. With a chimney breast, the alcoves are the obvious place; without one, a full wall usually is.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes and rarely reach the ceiling. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, so very little space goes to waste. Off-the-shelf furniture is designed for no room in particular, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. It can be painted in a colour chosen for that room.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the design visit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it during the design visit.
Questions from West Ham
I live in a flat in West Ham. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Is West Ham in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. West Ham is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details.
Is ventilation important in a dressing room?
Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?
In many homes, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers and still leave room to move. We check the room during the design visit.
Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
What it costs
The price for your room depends on:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The width and height of the space
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
Helping us understand the room
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in West Ham
About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around West Ham went up before 1919, and about 22% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of West Ham. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Newham sets its own rules. If your street in West Ham is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Sutton House, about 2.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to West Ham station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For an older house near Church of All Saints, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.
West Ham is about 1 mile south-east of Plaistow, within the London Borough of Newham. We cover West Ham as part of our work across Newham. Our work takes in places right across Newham, large and small.
Postcode districts we cover here for walk-in wardrobes: E15, E13 and E7. You will find streets here like Plaistow Grove, Willis Road and Moorey Close, and we cover homes on all of them for walk-in wardrobes. If you are just outside West Ham, we also cover Upton (1 mile north-east), Greengate (1 mile south-east), Maryland (1 mile north-west), Stratford (1 mile north-west) and Plaistow (1 mile south-east). Other parts of Newham we cover include East Ham (2 miles east), Plashet (2 miles east), Wallend (2 miles east), Manor Park (2 miles north-east), Little Ilford (2 miles north-east) and Custom House (2 miles south-east).
Near you in West Ham

Well-known places in the area include Passmore Edwards Museum (0.6 miles north) and Stratford Centre (0.7 miles north-west). Not far away are Old Ford Island.

Fitting day, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Starting with a design visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.
