Fitted home offices for your home in Battersea

Do you need fitted home offices in Battersea?

Clutter on the desk is a common reason to get in touch. Built-in drawers, cupboards and shelving give everything a place. The desk stays clear for work.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • Work things on show in the evening
  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
  • Shelving that bows under the load
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk

If you live near Imperial Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Fitted home offices in Battersea: what you get

We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the desk and shelving their strength, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Battersea. We make home offices from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight and no proper place to work from home.

In a period house, a front-room bay gives a desk good daylight, while the recesses beside the chimney breast take shelving. If your home is one of the many around Battersea built before 1919, a front room like that can become a study without losing its character. Everything is scribed to the room’s own walls.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Pricing fitted home offices in Battersea

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Fitted home offices for homes in Battersea

In the neighbourhood around Battersea, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. There are 21 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Battersea. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and home offices can be designed to work around them. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Wandsworth included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Battersea. We go through parking and access at the design visit.

For a family home near Christ Church CofE Primary School, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart. The wider area includes historic houses like Carlyle's House, about 1.4 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

How fitting day works

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. You let us know how you work and where you’d like the office, whether that is a spare room, an alcove or a landing.
  2. We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets.
  3. The design is agreed and a written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Getting a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What we do not do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Structural work, like removing walls or chimney breasts
  • Connecting printers and screens

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Battersea

My home in Battersea is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

I live in a flat in Battersea. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

That comes down to the size of the alcove. Many are wide enough for a compact desk, with shelves and storage around it. We measure and give an honest view at the design visit.

How long does it take to fit a home office?

How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The office is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the room as tidy as possible while we work.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
