Fitted home offices for homes in Chelsea Harbour
A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the desk stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Chelsea Harbour. People usually come to us about cables trailing across the desk and floor and a guest room that’s needed for work, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
With most households around Chelsea Harbour in purpose-built flats, mansion blocks and modern blocks are both possible. A mansion block room may have alcoves and high ceilings that suit a desk with tall shelving, while newer flats often have stud walls that need suitable fixings. We plan cable routes around the sockets you have.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

From workshop to your room
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Many blocks have entry systems, concierge desks or rules on booking the lift, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.
- You get in touch with a few details about the room and the home it’s in.
- We visit to measure the room and the way in, and talk through the design.
- A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- The desk and shelving are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
- The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.
Before fitting day
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Arranging a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Questions from Chelsea Harbour
How do you fit fitted home offices in a flat in Chelsea Harbour?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Home offices are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chelsea Harbour?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Can you fit sockets in the desk?
Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, not us. We design the desk with cable routes and leave room where sockets will go. It helps to agree the positions at the measuring visit.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Which materials go into your home offices?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Long shelves are sized to carry books and files without sagging. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

What else we make in Chelsea Harbour
Flat-pack or bespoke?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting gives the desk and doors a very even surface. It is applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
Shelves
Shelves can be fixed or adjustable. Fixed shelves add stiffness to tall units, while adjustable ones let you change things later.
Flats, conversions and lettings
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.
The problems fitted home offices solve
Clutter on the desk is a common reason to get in touch. Built-in drawers, cupboards and shelving give everything a place. The desk stays clear for work.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:
- Flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight
- A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
- Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
- A desk in the wrong light
For an older house near St Mary's Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Working from home in Chelsea Harbour
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Chelsea Harbour were built before 1919 (about 36%) and since 2000 (about 28%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Chelsea Harbour is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. About 36% of homes around Chelsea Harbour were built before 1919, well below the figure for Hammersmith and Fulham as a whole, about 56%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So the walls behind home offices here are more likely to be later brick, block or plasterboard, and they’re checked at the measuring visit.
If your children go to Chelsea Academy or a school nearby, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 0.8 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.
