Fitted home offices in East Wickham

A good home office has a place for everything. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the desk stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in East Wickham. We make home offices from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a screen that’s hard to read by the window and a room with two jobs to do.

For occasional working, a small desk on a landing or under the stairs can be enough. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around East Wickham, a landing or the space below the stairs could hold a compact desk. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Any meters or fuse board stay easy to get to.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.

Fitted home offices in East Wickham: local notes

In the area around East Wickham, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 57%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of East Wickham, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. About 58% of households in the area around East Wickham live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

Close to Shoulder of Mutton Green? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. For an older house near St Mary the Virgin, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. If your children go to East Wickham Primary Academy or a school nearby, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework.

Your questions about fitted home offices in East Wickham

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Welling station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in East Wickham?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and East Wickham is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.

Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?

It comes down to the size of the room. An office on one wall often leaves room for a bed. At the design visit, we will suggest what works.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

New sockets need an electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going.

  1. You get in touch and tell us how you work and where you’d like the office.
  2. We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go. New sockets are for your electrician, so it’s useful to think about them early.
  3. You receive a written quote for the office we have discussed.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, sized for the room and the route in.
  5. The office is fitted in your home and checked, ready for work, with cable routes left clear.

Before we arrive

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

When you need someone else

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Changes to the structure of the house
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Connecting printers and screens

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Built-in desks
  • Filing drawers
  • Cable routes
  • Birch plywood

What affects the cost of fitted home offices

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How big the furniture is

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

What we need to know

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Tips worth knowing

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Note the position of sockets in the room
  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Note what sits on and around your desk

Wiping the desk and fronts with a soft, damp cloth is usually all they need. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The desk edge is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.

A chair that bumps the desk can chip the paint. Ease the chair in rather than pushing it hard. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.
