Our fitted wardrobes across SE2

Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and space under the eaves going to waste; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

What goes into your quote

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What you get with us

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • A design visit, then a written quote
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Starting with a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Near you in Abbey Wood

Our area takes in the homes around Alexander McLeod Primary School, Saint Michael and All Angels and The Plume Of Feathers Public House. A little further out are Greenwich Borough Museum (close by, under half a mile west).

Fitted wardrobes across SE2: local notes

We make fitted wardrobes for homes across SE2, in Thamesmead, East Wickham and Abbey Wood and beyond. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it is made of.

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 31% of the housing in SE2, with about 30% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 31% of homes in SE2 date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Terraced houses are home to about 30% of households in SE2, according to Census 2021. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.

Since August 2023, the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London, and red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping, so access to homes in SE2 is planned beforehand.

Abbey Wood: If your home is one of the older houses near Saint Michael and All Angels, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Abbey Wood Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Is bespoke worth it?

Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

What to check before you book

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The internal fittings
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Parking near your home

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, use our contact form.

What it’s made from

Hanging rails

Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.

Birch plywood

For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing, standing up to daily opening.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the design visit.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in SE2

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused, with wardrobes at the sides and cupboards overhead. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Where is the furniture made?

Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it’s going into, then fitted in your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Do you make good the walls afterwards?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

Do you cover areas outside London?

No. We only take on work in London.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop.
