Wall beds in East Wickham, Bexley
We make wall beds for homes in East Wickham, designed around the room you have. Your wall bed is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- Room for a desk and a guest bed
- Storage built around a fold-down bed
- More floor space in a studio flat
Need wall beds in East Wickham?
Is bespoke worth it?
You can buy wall bed units off the shelf, often for less, and they can work in a simple space. They’re made in standard sizes, so they may not suit uneven walls, low ceilings or alcoves. Ours is made to the room you have. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.
Why us?
- Saturdays by prior arrangement
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote

Wall beds in East Wickham
We build the bed housing from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. From the front, the folded bed can look like a set of tall cupboards, sitting quietly in the room. If you are living with a studio that works by day and night and a proper bed instead of a sofa bed, wall beds made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around East Wickham, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit wall beds, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Pricing wall beds in East Wickham
There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What to send when you get in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Questions from East Wickham
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Welling station?
Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in East Wickham?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
We check that at the measuring visit. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings, and the mechanism maker sets out what’s required.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
How fitting day works
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there. The bed can sit among shelves or beside a desk.
- We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready to check.
- We build and finish everything in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.
Preparing the room
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Bedrooms in East Wickham: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 57% of the housing in the neighbourhood around East Wickham, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of East Wickham, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Bexley has its own. If your street in East Wickham is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Living in a block of flats near Welling station? Then wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live near Shoulder of Mutton Green, wall beds are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. The wider area includes historic houses like Danson House, about 1.3 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
