Flats, conversions and lettings
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
Fitted home offices in Erith: what you get
A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the desk stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you are done. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Erith. If you are living with cables trailing across the desk and floor and a room with two jobs to do, that’s what home offices are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Paperwork, printers and chargers are what make a desk look untidy, so cupboards with cable routes built in keep them hidden. For a home in Erith, the design can include a printer cupboard and file drawers. Cables run to your existing sockets.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fitting day, we check the route in as well as the room, so home offices arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch and let us know about the work you do and the equipment you use.
- We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The office furniture is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Getting a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

The problems fitted home offices solve
A spare room that has to do two jobs is another reason. Fitted furniture can make room for both. It makes the most of a room that is only sometimes used for guests.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A room with two jobs to do
- Shelves that sag under books and files
- A desk in the wrong light
- Work things on show in the evening
Close to Wildspace Conservation Park? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.
Choosing a carpenter
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
Erith homes and fitted home offices
In the neighbourhood around Erith, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 26%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The centre of Erith is within about a quarter of a mile of the Lesney Park Road Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If you live on or close to a main road in Erith, let us know during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. For a flat near Erith station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Questions from Erith
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Erith station?
Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Erith?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How long does it take to fit a home office?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.
Can you fit sockets in the desk?
We do not do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. It’s useful to agree the positions during the design visit.
Before and after fitting day
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Note the position of sockets in the room
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
- Note how many files and books you need to store
Before we leave, we check every drawer, door and shelf with you. The cable routes are pointed out so you know where everything goes. That way, you can start work straight away.
Keep heavy loads on the shelves meant for them. We size shelves for what you told us they’d carry. Spread heavy books and files evenly.
Why bespoke in Erith?
If you only need a simple desk against a straight wall, an off-the-shelf desk may be enough. A fitted office earns its place where the space is awkward or the storage matters. At the design visit, we will tell you honestly which approach suits your room. Few rooms have truly flat walls and level floors, and standalone units show it with gaps and wobbles. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
