Bexley Riverside homes and fitted home offices

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Bexley Riverside were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Bexley included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Bexley Riverside, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If you live in a flat close to Barnehurst station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live near Braeburn Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.6 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Bexley Riverside is about 4 miles south-west of Sidcup, in the London Borough of Bexley. How we make fitted home offices for Bexley Riverside

Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or doors that close over the desk at the end of the day. It’s worth talking through at the design visit in Bexley Riverside. We make home offices from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are no way to put work away and no proper place to work from home.

Detached and semi-detached houses can have more than one room that could be an office. Around Bexley Riverside, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so there may be a choice of rooms. Daylight, quiet and where the broadband arrives are worth weighing up. The design visit is a good time to talk through the options.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Questions we are often asked

Is Bexley Riverside in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes. Bexley Riverside is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Bexley and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Barnehurst station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.

Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?

In many rooms, yes. We plan the office so there is still space for guests, or with doors that close over the desk. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.

Which materials go into your home offices?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Long shelves are sized to carry books and files without sagging. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits desks, panels and doors alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.

Pull-out drawers

Desk drawers keep the things you use every day close by. Deeper drawers can take files. Each one is sized for what it holds.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Think about where the sockets are now
  • Consider your chair when planning the desk
  • Think about glare on your screen

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the office, message us from the contact page and we will help.

Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Tight cables can mark edges over time. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.

From workshop to your room

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
  2. We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a quote in writing.
  4. The office is made in our workshop and painted in your colour.
  5. The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

What fitted home offices can’t fix

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Turning an unconverted loft into a room
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Structural work, like removing walls or chimney breasts

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
