Fitted home offices for your home in Kingsbury

Fitted home offices in Kingsbury: what you get

A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Kingsbury, we design it all around what you need to store. Most enquiries start with a tangle of chargers and leads and a desk in the wrong light; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Kingsbury, if the loft has been converted, the space under the eaves can take a desk and storage. We build in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Or a desk can sit in an alcove or a bay.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

The problems fitted home offices solve

What’s behind you on a call is worth thinking about. Shelving and cupboards can give a calm, ordered background. It is a practical benefit many people mention.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:

  • Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
  • Cables trailing across the desk and floor
  • Glare from a window on the screen
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of the Holy Innocents, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

What to check before you book

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Fitted home offices for homes in Kingsbury

In the area around Kingsbury, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 77%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Kingsbury is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Kingsbury is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Roe Green Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. For a family home near Kingsbury Green Primary School, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework.

What we do not do

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Changes to the structure of the house

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and let us know how you work and where you’d like the office, including the equipment you use.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the desk, shelving and storage. New sockets are for your electrician, so it helps to think about them early.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Looking after your furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Note the position of sockets in the room
  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Note how many files and books you need to store
  • Choose a calm colour for a working room

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything isn’t right with the furniture, drop us a line using the contact form and we will talk it through.

Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.

Common questions about fitted home offices

Is parking a problem for fitting in Kingsbury?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Kingsbury?

Yes, Kingsbury is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Brent and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
