Little Portugal Fitted Home Offices

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted home offices for homes in Little Portugal, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A screen that is hard to read by the window
  • An awkward space with no furniture that fits
  • No proper place to work from home

Common questions about fitted home offices

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Little Portugal?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and Little Portugal is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wandsworth Road station?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?

Yes, in a loft that is already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We do not carry out loft conversions.

How much does a fitted home office cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The mix of desk, shelving, drawers and doors, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.

Fitted home offices for homes in Little Portugal

Each home office is built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Little Portugal. People typically come to us about work things on show in the evening and a laptop that moves from room to room, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

For anyone on video calls, the wall behind the desk matters, so closed cupboards and tidy open shelving are worth planning together. With most households around Little Portugal in purpose-built flats, the office often shares a room. A desk behind doors puts work away at the end of the day.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Caring for painted furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Think about the space you need to push back
  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit

When we’ve finished fitting, the desk and storage are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Use a mat under a laptop or anything with rubber feet while the paint hardens.

Keep the chair from knocking the desk edge. Pushing it in gently helps. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done in your home after fitting. It’s easy to touch up if it gets marked. That suits a desk that sees daily use.

Spray-painted finish

For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Fitting day, step by step

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where there’s no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The stair turns and landings set the limit. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed.

  1. You get in touch and let us know how you work and where you’d like the office, including the equipment you use.
  2. We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go. New sockets are for your electrician, so it is useful to think about them early.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use, with cable routes left clear.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Ask for a quote

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Built-in desks and shelving in Little Portugal

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Little Portugal were built before 1919 (about 31%) and since 2000 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Little Portugal is partly covered by the South Lambeth Road Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Lambeth included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Little Portugal. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

For families living near Platanos College, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart. The wider area includes historic houses such as Buckingham Palace, about 2 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If you live in a period home close to St Stephen's Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Little Portugal is in the London Borough of Lambeth, about 1 mile south of Stockwell. Whether your home in Little Portugal is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. In Lambeth, Little Portugal is one of the places we cover.

Every home in SW9, SW8 and SW1P is covered for fitted home offices. Whether you live on a street like Kay Road, Lett Road and Rita Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for fitted home offices. Little Portugal sits close to the A203. What affects the price in Little Portugal

There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • The internal fittings
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

What fitted home offices can’t fix

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Knocking through or opening up rooms
  • Connecting printers and screens
  • Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
