Fitted Home Offices in North Finchley

In North Finchley, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • Flimsy shelves that will not take the weight
  • A tangle of chargers and leads
  • Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The width and height of the space

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Before the design visit

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • How you want to use the space

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Fitted home offices for homes in North Finchley

We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is brought to your home in North Finchley and fitted. If your home has wires with no tidy route and a screen that’s hard to read by the window, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Homes in an area like North Finchley can come from many different periods, so the place for a desk could be an alcove, a box room, a landing or a converted loft. We look at the options at the design visit. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Home working in North Finchley: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 29% of the housing in the area around North Finchley, with about 26% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of North Finchley include Coachhouse Between Number 34 and 36 (Grade II), less than half a mile east, and Christ Church (Grade II), less than half a mile south. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We will plan where the van can stop.

For a family home near Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. Living in a block of flats near New Southgate station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is one of the older houses near St. Barnabas Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

What it is made from

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It suits desks, long shelves and drawer boxes. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Shelves

Shelving over the desk keeps reference books close. Lower, deeper shelves suit files and a printer. The design visit is where depths are agreed.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made office furniture comes in set sizes for straight walls. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. A fitted home office is designed for the room and scribed to the walls. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Standalone furniture leaves gaps behind and above it that gather dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling.

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. Either way, the day is planned at the measuring visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the work you do and the equipment you use.
  2. We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
  3. A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The office furniture is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
  5. The desk and shelves are fitted, with the cable routes ready for your equipment.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Ask for a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
