Old Oak Common Bespoke Kitchens
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in Old Oak Common, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A layout for a small or awkward room
- A painted dresser for the kitchen
- More storage in a small kitchen

Bespoke kitchens in Old Oak Common
We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and cabinets built around the appliances you choose.
Kitchens in newer homes often face onto a balcony door or a large window, which leaves fewer walls for cabinets. Since many homes around Old Oak Common date from 2000 onwards, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What else we make in Old Oak Common
Looking after your furniture
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Let us know about parking at the measuring visit
- Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Share the layout with your other trades
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, so late changes can be tricky.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber.
- You get in touch with a few details about the kitchen.
- We visit, measure and discuss the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
- You receive a written quote, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The kitchen is made in our workshop.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. It’s useful to have those trades booked in good time.
Before fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
How to get a quote
To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.
Advice
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Bespoke kitchens in Old Oak Common: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 42% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Old Oak Common, with about 32% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Old Oak Common is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 21% of households in the area around Old Oak Common, the 2021 Census shows. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Kelmscott House, about 2.5 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Close to Little Wormwood Scrubs? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. For families living near Old Oak Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

What it costs
Several things affect the price:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How square the room is
- The width and height of the space
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Before the design visit
These details help when you contact us:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Any ideas or images you have saved
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Old Oak Common
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Old Oak Common?
Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London, and Old Oak Common is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Old Oak Common?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
Can I have a kitchen island?
Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.
